Information for Sentinel administrators:

1. Rules

The Sentinel Scheme rules were created for anyone involved in the system; they outline responsibilities, policies and breaches that must be adhered to. You can access the latest version (June 2015) of them here

2. Track Visitor Permits (TVP)

What and who?

Track Visitor Permits (TVP) are issued in accordance with Network Rail Company Specification NR/SP/CTM/021 for people without Personal Track Safety (PTS) or Industry Common Induction competences. A bona fide person who requires access on or near the line for a specific purpose, who does not hold PTS certification, and who works for an authorised Sentinel sponsor may be issued with a Track Visitor Permit. TVPs can be created by Sentinel administrators and an individual can only be issued with a maximum of twelve per annum. If they need to access the track on a more regular basis then they will need to formerly apply for a card.  


If your job involves creating TVP, please email and they will be able to create a special account for you. Please note, you will need to obtain important medical and personal information from the person requesting a TVP, such as medical history / conditions, National Insurance Number and date of birth (D.O.B). Once a person has received their TVP they must carry it with them when visiting a work site and present it to the Controller of Site Safety (COSS). They will be responsible for ensuring the TVP holder is closely supervised at all times, to avoid any danger or incidents occurring.

3. Accessing your Sentinel account

As a Sentinel administrator, you will be able to view and update records in the system. It couldn’t be easier. All you need to do is log into the portal here: If you do not have access or have forgotten your login details then please contact the Sentinel helpdesk on 0330 726 2222. Once you have logged into your account, you will have access to the dashboard in order to:

  • Edit details
  • Change your password
  • Edit your contacts and / or site addresses
  • Manage colleague logins
  • Create TVPs
  • Run reports
  • ….and much more!

The dashboard is self-explanatory, however you can find some step-by-step user guides below if you need additional help. Alternatively, please call the helpdesk.
