Information for Sentinel Administrators
Sentinel is the rail industry’s Authority to Work system that enables you to work safely on the infrastructure. Sentinel is owned and run by Network Rail, for the industry, and is supported by the Sentinel Scheme Rules. The Sentinel Scheme Rules apply to everyone who uses Sentinel and outline responsibilities and policies that must be adhered to. You can find a copy here.
Sentinel complies with the Data Protection Act 2018. The system holds limited personal information and this will not be shared with any other company.
You can log in to your administrator account here or via the home page log in box and clicking on Administrators.
Sentinel Administrator
As a Sentinel administrator, you can view and update the records of the people you sponsor in Sentinel. To request an administration account you will need to complete and return an ‘Access Request’ form, a copy can be found here. You will need to send the completed form to the Sentinel Helpdesk team for their approval via sentinel@mitie.com. If your request is accepted, you will receive your individual log on details via an automated email. You can log in to your administrator account via the home page log in box and clicking on Administrators.
A Sentinel administrator is responsible for keeping the information in the system up to date and can order new or replacement cards for the individuals sponsored.
Track Visitor Permit Administrator
If you require the capability to create TVPs, you will need to complete and return an ‘Access Request’ form, a copy can be found here. You will need to send the completed form to the Sentinel Helpdesk team for their approval via sentinel@mitie.com. If your request is accepted, you will receive your individual log on details via an automated email. You can log in to your administrator account via the home page log in box and clicking on Administrators.
TVPs are for people who do not have a Sentinel card or hold a core competence, and can only be issued 12 times per year, per individual. If an individual requires access to trackside more than 12 times per year, they must obtain their core competence, a Primary Sponsor, medical certificate, D&A certificate and be issued a Sentinel card. All TVPs should be issued in accordance with the NR/L2/OHS/020 standard.
A TVP can not be used as a replacement for Personal Track Safety competence, or any other core competence.
